UPSET AT THE PARK
Danson Boys loose their 100% record in a shock defeat at Penhill Park.
This result goes to show that even the best can have an off day.
It was clear from the start of this game that Crockenhill came to the park not to concede too many goals. But although the 'Bhoys' started well, Crockenhill's defence and goal keeper played superbly to keep Danson Boys at bay.
With Crockenhill Juniors starting the game, they attacked the Danson goal, but a great tackle from Frankie halted the attack. He played the ball across field to Michael, who pushed it up the line to Ross. Ross put over a good cross which was collected by the keeper.
The 'Bhoys' played some good football in the first minute and Michael made a brilliant tackle out on the left and played a good ball to Ross. Ross and Tate exchanged passes in the centre circle but the ball was won by the Juniors midfield. The ball was played forward and Michael cleared the ball into touch. The skipper Frankie, got his head to the throw in and knocked the ball clear.
Tobi collected the loose ball, but the hard working Crockenhill midfield won the ball back and a long clearance was met by Michael. His pass found Ross out on the left, who cut inside and played the ball to Tate. (Juniors looked hungry for the ball and with everyone back in defence, Danson found it very difficult to find a way through). The clearance fell to Lewis and his first time ball to Ross was again intercepted by a defender.
Tate's corner on 5 minutes was cleared, but fell straight to Lewis. He returned the ball to Tate and his cross was again met by the Junior's defender. The clearance went back to Lewis who smashed the ball into the crowded goal mouth. The ball bounced out to Tobi and his brilliant shot hammered against the post. If this had found the net, it would have certainly opened the flood gates. Alas, it was not meant to be.
On 7 minutes, Frankie picked up a long clearance from the Juniors defence and his pass to Ross was intercepted by the Juniors midfield. Going forward, Crockenhill's shot on goal was brilliantly saved by Mitchell.
A good cross into the area by Ross, from Tate's through ball was cleared yet again.
A good ball from Frankie to Ross on the left hand side was pushed on to Tobi, and another good tackle from the Juniors defence ended the Danson attack.
On 10 minutes Lewis played a great ball on to Frankie, who pushed the ball into the box for Ross and his first time shot flew over the bar.
Crockenhill, riding their luck, were growing in confidence and attacked the 'Bhoys' goal, but only some great defending by Danson prevented Juniors from scoring.
Ross pushed the ball down the line to Tobi who made a great run into the area and his shot was superbly saved by the keeper. However, play was pulled back when the referee had deemed that the ball had crossed the line for a throw.
On 13 minutes, Tobi made a brilliant run when he went passed two defenders and the keeper, before he unfortunately lost control and ran the ball out of play.
A great clearance from Lewis to Tobi on 15 minutes and a brilliant shot from Tobi, was equalled with a great save by the keeper.
Danson piled on the pressure and were playing some great football, but excellent defending and goal keeping from Crockenhill prevented the 'Bhoys' from finding the target.
The 'Bhoys' won two corners in succession and with numerous shots on goal just couldn't find a way through.
It was evident by now, that this was not going to be the 'Bhoys' day and at half time the score was 0-0.
Incredibly, for the very first time, Danson Boys had failed to score and Crockenhill must have thought that christmas had come early.
George, Max and new signing Tom, were on at the start of the second half for Tobi, Lewis and Michael.
Max and George combined well from kick off. A great ball from Max to George saw George's cross pushed away for a corner kick. From the resulting corner, Max found Frankie on the edge of the penalty area and Frankie's drive was deflected for another corner. The corner from Tate was cleared straight back to him and his first time shot was saved again.
The ball was knocked long by the Juniors defence, into the Danson goalmouth, but was cleared to George. He pushed the ball to Max who carried the ball down the left but the Juniors defence were too strong.
On 28 minutes, great battling in the Juniors goalmouth from Ross and Max ended with the ball being cleared.
Danson Boys were now well on top. Some good efforts at goal just found them lacking their normal killer touch.
A great block and pass from Frankie sent Ross on a run. He turned inside and beat two defenders before rifling in a shot, which was well saved by the keeper.
Making his debut for the 'Bhoys', Tom settled in well at left back and he and Frankie looked comfortable together. Tom played a good ball to George, but George was pulled down and Danson were awarded a free kick.
The resulting free kick was floated into the area and was easily saved by the keeper.
Frankie made another great tackle on 34 minutes and played the ball to Ross. He beat one defender before crossing the ball to Max, who's first time pass found Tate. Tate's shot flew wide.
A Crockenhill corner on 37 minutes was cleared down the left flank to Tate. He controlled, turned and made a good run, before the ball was knocked out for a Danson throw.
Max got on the end of Tate's throw and controlled well before striking a shot at goal, only for the keeper to pull off another great save.
Lewis replaced Ross on 40 minutes and immediately had a chance when he got his head onto a corner from Tate. The ball flew over the bar.
A shot from Lewis a minute later also cleared the bar.
With the 'Bhoys' attacking on 42 minutes, a breakaway from Crockenhill left the Danson defence vulnerable and although a foul was committed on Mitchell in the Danson goal, the ball ended up in the back of the net. The referee never saw the foul and the goal stood.
The 'Bhoys' failed to capitalize on a good move on 43 minutes, when Tom played a good ball out to Tate who rolled the ball inside to George. He played the ball out to Max but great defending stopped the attack.
2 minutes later Tate went on a great run, beating 4 players before being tackled.
Danson boys created enough chances in the last 5 minutes to deserve to win. Shot's from Lewis, Max, Tate and George, were fired in on goal but only brilliant goalkeeping saved Crockenhill from certain defeat.
With every player behind the ball, Crockenhill defended the onslaught from Danson Boys and every Danson player, except the keeper, were hitting shots relentlessly at goal, but the 'Bhoys' just could not find a way through.
It was clear from the early stages of this game that the 'Bhoys' were not destined to get a result. And it must be said that Crockenhill played very well and defended magnificently throughout.
This result, I'm sure, is a minor setback and will make the 'Bhoys' even more determined in their quest for the title.
BOYS, we must put this minor setback out of our minds and look forward to next week's cup tie against Darenth Cougars.
And no doubt you will be back to your best.
HAVE FAITH !
